David Gorham has been Director of Bands at Owasso High School since 1989. Before coming to Owasso, he taught five years in Van Buren, Arkansas. As Eighth Grade band director, Mr. Gorham's bands consistently received Superior ratings in concert and sight-reading. At Owasso High School, his duties include overseeing the entire band program as well as directing the Wind Ensemble, Concert Band II, and The Pride marching band--all of which have earned Superior ratings at every event for the past eighteen years. The Wind Ensemble has performed at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, and has been an Oklahoma Music Educator’s Association Honor Group five times. The band program has been awarded the Sudler Flag of Honor and Sudler Shield by the Sousa Foundation.
Mr. Gorham was born in Hope, Arkansas and graduated from Hope High School in 1978. In 1982, he received his Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from the University of Arkansas. While at Arkansas, he received the Henry G. & Stella Hotz Award for outstanding sophomore in the College of Education, and was a Presser Scholar. He received his Master of Music Education from the University of Arkansas in 1993.
Mr. Gorham was selected as the Oklahoma Bandmasters Association Director of the Year for 1997. In addition, he was the 1988 ASBDA-Stanbury Award winner for Arkansas and the 1992 ASBDA-Stanbury Award winner for the South Central Region. He is a member of Phi Beta Mu and the American Bandmasters Association.
Mr. Gorham has over 60 published works for concert band, all published by Wingert-Jones Music Co. and Southern Music Co. These works have been included on contest lists throughout the United States, Australia, and Japan. He has composed a number of commissioned works for groups throughout the country, including the University of Arkansas Wind Ensemble, Arkansas All-State Band, the North Hills Symphony Band (Pittsburgh, PA), and the United States Air Force Band of Mid-America.
Chris Harris has taught 3 years in Owasso and 15 years overall in the state of Oklahoma. At Owasso he conducts the High School Symphonic Band, the 8th Grade Concert Band, the Basketball Pep Band, the 8th Grade Percussion Ensemble and assists the Wind Ensemble. Harris also assists in the instruction of the PRIDE of Owasso Marching Band.
Harris graduated from the University of Oklahoma with Bachelor and Master degrees in Music Education in 1990 and 1992 respectively. He has also taught in the Moore, Union and Broken Arrow school systems.
Mr. Harris has been married to his wife Marti for 11 years. Claire is 6 years old and enjoys singing, jumping on the trampoline while the sprinkler is running, shopping with Mom and hitting golf balls with Dad. Her future plans include playing the oboe fluently between rounds on the LPGA tour.
Steve Workman has 30 years of teaching experience in Oklahoma and Arkansas. Mr. Workman is in his sixth year as a band staff member at Owasso Public Schools. He teaches clarinet & double reeds at the 6th grade center, 7th grade beginners, and assists with the Owasso High School Band program. From 1997-2002 Mr. Workman was Instrumental Music Coordinator and Director of Bands for Sapulpa, Oklahoma Public School System. He has held these positions for the five years. From 1985-97, he held the same position the Ponca City Public School Instrumental Music Program. Prior to moving to Oklahoma he taught in the Van Buren, Arkansas Public School System for eight years as band director at the middle school, junior high, and high school. Mr. Workman received his B.M.E. From Arkansas Tech University and his M.M.E. from Emporia (KS) State University.
During his tenure at Van Buren, Mr. Workman was named the 1984 winner of the Stanbury Uniform “Outstanding Young Band Director” for the State of Arkansas and the Southwest Region of the United States. While in Ponca City, he has served as the All-OMEA All-State Band Chair during the 1989-90 school years, Band Vice-President of the Oklahoma Music Educators Association from 1991-93. While at Sapulpa he has served as President of O.M.E.A. from 1997-99. Mr. Workman’s bands at Sapulpa and Ponca City have received the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association Class 5A sweepstakes award for outstanding bands and many festival “sweepstakes” concert band awards at national festivals in Atlanta, Orlando, San Diego, San Antonio, and Washington, D.C. Mr. Workman has also served as clinician and adjudicator throughout Oklahoma, Arkansas, and the surrounding states.
His professional memberships include Oklahoma Bandmaster Association, Texas Bandmaster Association, North Central Directors Association, Music Educators National Conference/Oklahoma Music Educators Association, Oklahoma Educators Association/National Educators Association, and American School Band Directors Association & Phi Beta Mu National Band Fraternity.
Cindy Craft has taught for 12 years in the state of Oklahoma and is in her second year of teaching at Owasso. She teaches trombone class at the 6th grade center, conducts and assists at the 7th grade center and assists with the Pride of Owasso Marching Band. Cindy is a graduate of the University of Louisville and grew up in southern Indiana, where her family still lives.
Mrs. Craft has been married for 9 years to her husband, Steve. Steve is a full-time musician with the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra, is on the music faculty at Tulsa Community College, a free-lance musician and percussion instructor in Bartlesville. Cindy and Steve currently reside in Owasso with their precious cocker spaniel “son” Eli.
